What this book is

Lyblac is a book of folklore, tradition and contemplative practice. Its contents are offered for spiritual, cultural and educational interest. Nothing in it is a statement of scientific fact about what any plant, stone or working will do.

It is not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice and must never be used in place of them. No working here treats, cures or prevents any illness. If you are unwell, consult a qualified medical professional. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency number now.

Plants

Do not eat, drink, smoke or apply to your skin any plant on the strength of this app. Several traditional herbs are harmful, particularly in pregnancy, while breastfeeding, for children, for pets, and alongside prescribed medicines. Cautions are shown on the page of each item that carries one; the absence of a caution is not a statement that something is safe.

The pictures in the cabinet show a typical example and are there for interest. They are not a guide to identifying anything you find. Many plants, fungi and minerals look alike and some are dangerous. Never rely on the app to decide whether something is safe to touch, burn or consume.

Fire and smoke

Never leave a candle, charcoal or burning herb unattended. Burn only in a heatproof vessel on a stable surface, away from anything that can catch, and out of reach of children and animals. Ventilate the room. Smoke can aggravate asthma and other conditions.

Gathering and the law

You are responsible for knowing the law where you are. Do not trespass. Do not gather protected species or gather in protected places. In many countries it is unlawful to possess the feathers, eggs or remains of wild birds, and to remove certain shells, stones or plants from beaches and reserves.

Stones

Some minerals contain copper, lead, arsenic or other harmful elements. Do not put stones in water that you will drink or bathe in. Wash your hands after handling raw specimens.
